Daisy's First Day of School!!

Daisy started school! The Montessori school in our neighborhood where Rosie has been attending for the last 3 years, starts preschool at 3 years old. The classes are multi- age rooms so 3 year olds, four year olds, and kindergardeners all learn together. Daisy started school 2 weeks ago and she Rosie is going into kindergarten. Daisy is in Rosie's class and feels so special going to school with her big sister. Rosie feels very proud to take her under her wing and show her the ropes. It's nice because Daisy only goes 2 days a week, so Daisy can get used to things and Rosie still has plenty of space. Next year Rosie will move up to a 1st, 2nd, 3rd grade room and Daisy will have the class all to herself.


Daisy was so excited the morning that school started! She ran to get in line and followed Rosie with a huge grin on her face and clapping! She never would have looked back if Rich hadn't yelled goodbye to her. She turned and waved goodbye excitedly! When I picked her up at noon, she didn't even want to come home. I asked Rosie how she did at school and she said with a little smirk on her face, "She just sat at the snack table and ate snack the whole time!"

She's got some work to do learning about line theory and keeping her shoes on, but so far she loves school!

Rosie's first day of Preschool!

Rosie started preschool today at Grand Rapids Montessori. She was so excited and didn't really seem nervous at all! It helped that she knew a couple friends in her class already! She will be in a class of 3 and 4 year olds as well as Kindergartners. I have a lot more to learn about it, but so far I am very impressed with the Montessori philosophy of education and I feel very privileged that we have this as an option in Grand Rapids Public schools.

Rich stayed home a little later so that I could just take Rosie and not have to load up the whole crew in the van (Lily was not going to school this morning, but more on that later). Lily was very excited for her and gave her a nice send off from the porch in her favorite Monkey pajamas.


Rich is really having a hard time with the fact that yet another of our children is growing up, he really didn't want to let her go. She does seem awfully little to go to school!


We found her good friend Solomon as soon as we got there and asked him to show us the ropes since he is a big kindergardener. He took his job very seriously! They are both in Miss Tracy's class together.



She followed the line into school, only looking back once to waive and smile at me (following the line is going to take a little practice, she veered way out of it and had to run to catch up) and off she went. The house is going to be very quiet with both the girls at school. What will Daisy and I do with ourselves every morning?

When I picked Rosie up at lunch time she told me her favorite part of the day was doing her 'work'. She is so proud to be going to school and really seems to enjoy the idea that she is old enough to go off by herself. Miss Tracy said she has a great 1st day. She wanted to know why she couldn't ride the bus (there isn't busing for her) so I told her she has to ride the Mommy bus and I pretended to be a real bus driver all the way!

First Day of Kindergarden!

Lily started school today! She is attending Coit Creative Arts Academy which is a theme school in the Grand Rapids Public district. The curriculum is based around the Arts. She will have art class twice a week and be a part of school theater performances. Starting in 1st grade all students are in choir too. They are on the Alternative schedule and she goes from 9-4pm Monday thru Friday! It is going to be an adjustment for her, but I think it'll be fairly easy for me. I really like her teacher, Mrs. Sleighter. She has been teaching 18 years and has 8 children of her own, so I think she is experienced enough to handle Lily!

Lily was very excited about her new Princess backpack. I tried to talk her into a plain blue one, but that didn't fly. She also got a new hello Kitty alarm clock. I set it for 7:45am, but she was up, dressed and came into my room to wake me with her backpack on by 7:15am!

Rosie was very excited to be a part of getting Lily to school. She cried big tears when we left saying, "I am going to miss Lily!" Rosie will start school right after Labor Day and that will be very good for her. She is going to be in her friend Solomon's class at Grand Rapids Montessori.


Lily gets her very own locker. She is so good at recognizing her name that she just ran straight up to it and put her backpack in.


I realized on Tuesday that both the girl's hair was way to long and shaggy, thank God Aunt Heidi was available for a last minute hair cut! I would've hated to send Lily to school with her hair hanging in her face like it has been all summer.


This is Lily and her cousin Brieanne, who will also start Kindergarden this year. Aren't they cute with thier matching missing bottom teeth?
